How to measure for a replacement window screen
If you have an existing screen that fits correctly, use it as your reference whenever possible. Measure the finished screen itself—not the glass and not the visible window opening.
Before you remove the old screen
Take a quick photo of the screen while it is still installed, ideally from both sides. That preserves which edge is top, where springs or plungers sit, and where pull tabs or clips belong when you configure the replacement later.
Best method: measure an existing screen
- Remove the existing screen carefully and place it on a flat surface.
- Check whether the frame is bowed, twisted or separated at a corner. If it is, do not rely on one measurement through the bowed middle.
- Measure the outside finished width from outer frame edge to outer frame edge. Compare the measurement near the top and bottom if the frame does not look perfectly square.
- Measure the outside finished height the same way. Compare the left and right sides if needed.
- Record dimensions in inches and recheck both measurements before ordering.
- Identify the frame profile, color, mesh, and any springs, pull tabs, bale clips, tension springs, plungers or other hardware needed to match how the screen mounts.
If you do not have a screen to copy
Measuring an opening can require understanding how the original screen was intended to fit and retain in the window. Look for the screen track, stops, channels or mounting hardware and compare your opening to the frame and hardware choices in the configurator. Do not assume the visible glass or opening dimension is automatically the correct finished screen size.

Frame profile matters
Width and height alone are not enough. Replacement screens can use different frame thicknesses and hardware. Use the configurator to select the profile that best matches the original screen or the window's screen track.
Large screens
The configurator recommends a crossbar when a finished side exceeds 47.5 inches. A crossbar adds rigidity and helps reduce bowing in larger frames.
Custom screens fabricated correctly to customer-submitted measurements generally cannot be returned simply because the submitted measurements were incorrect.
