Window screen frame guide

How to choose the right replacement screen frame profile.

Finished width and height determine the overall screen size, but the frame profile determines how the screen fits the window track and hardware. Match the original frame whenever possible.

Available profiles

Common replacement screen frame options.

5/16 × 3/4

A common narrow-profile replacement screen frame. Match both thickness and face dimension to the original screen when possible.

7/16 × 3/4

A thicker 3/4-inch face profile used where the window track accepts a deeper frame.

3/8 × 3/4

An intermediate thickness profile. Do not assume it is interchangeable with 5/16 or 7/16 frames.

3/8 × KE

A specialty profile that should be selected when it matches the original frame geometry.

Standoff

A standoff-style frame is used in applications where the screen needs offset geometry rather than a standard flat frame profile.

Best practice

Use the existing screen as your template whenever you can.

If the old screen fits properly, compare its frame thickness, face dimension, color and hardware before ordering. A screen with the correct finished width and height can still fit incorrectly if the wrong frame profile is selected.
